I was all set and ready to go to bed, and then I checked a comment, only to learn that people are actually reading this blog and enjoying it. The lovely Lauren & Matt over at First on First nominated me for a Liebster Award. A what, you might ask? Because that’s exactly what I did. Apparently it’s a way to show some love to new blogs that you’re reading. The rules are:
- Thank the person that nominated you and link back up to their blog. (Thank you, thank you, thank you guys! I feel pretty special!)
- Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator. (See below)
- Nominate 10 other bloggers for this award who have less than 200 followers. (Will do tomorrow)
- Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer. (ditto above)
- Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them. (ditto again)
So, here’s part 1 – part two of ‘favourite new blogs’ to come tomorrow as a little lunchtime treat.
1. What is your favorite blog and why?
There are SOOOO many good blogs, but I find myself checking a few daily. Young House Love, French by Design, and also Emmas Designblogg tend to capture my thumb when scrolling through the list on Bloglovin’. I also check Abigail Ahern pretty regularly. And skip around to see what’s out that’s new. I did a post awhile back on where I find inspiration – these are the people I go back to time and again. I really look forward to checking in with them.
2. What was the inspiration for your blog?
I’ve always loved photography, design and home interiors. When I was younger, I was ’employed’ by my parents to help repaint or strip wallpaper, and loved it. My mom is an amazing artist, and has a great eye for interiors too, so I grew up thinking about how to make a house feel like a unique home. I recently noticed that in London, everyone talks about street fashion and clothes, but almost no one about how your style translates into your living space – the space we retreat to, recharge in and entertain in. And probably one of the most expensive purchases we’ll ever make. Everyone is scrambling to get on the property ladder but once they’re there, they don’t quite know what to do with the places they’ve bought. It’s nicely dovetailed with us buying a home, so everything kind of fell into place at once. I also had about 1,000 pins on Pinterest and 100 home interiors magazines that I needed to do something with. So now I have an excuse for all the time I’ve spent ‘gathering inspiration’.
3. What’s your favorite part of your home and why?
We have a massive marble fireplace in our rental flat, which I adore. It even works (a rarity in London), but since we’ve lived here over the summer we’ve never used it. In our new home (we move in two weeks), there’s a big bay window in our front room that makes me swoon. I’ve always been drawn to them – and Victorian architecture – so am thrilled that we’ve managed to find a place with one. If I could take the fireplace along, I would. Our cats would too.
4. What’s your go-to drink when at a wedding?
Champagne. And then gin & tonic or red wine. Or beer, if it’s good beer. My best friend’s wedding in Portland had kegs from Deschutes Brewery. After almost two years working in the beer industry, I was in heaven.
5. Name one of your guilty pleasure in the music category.
My husband will mock me forever, but probably Robyn. She’s just really easy to dance to, run to, write to, and puts me in a great mood.
6. What’s your dream vacation spot?
We just did a huge trip around Japan, and I was completely overwhelmed in the best possible way. I need to go back to Tokyo very soon.
7. Name one area of your home you’d like to change and why?
The place we’re renting – I would refinish the original wood flooring. It’s beautiful, but has been neglected for so long now that it’s near death. It really needs some tlc. The place we’re buying, we will be ripping the kitchen to pieces (it’s VERY old and nearly falling apart) and replacing everything but the cooker, the floor, and the window. So stay tuned.
8. What’s your best quick-meal in your repertoire?
Sesame Salmon with fresh avacado and rice noodles. It’s yummy, and you really just need to cook the salmon in some sesame oil with a dash of soy sauce, chop up an avocado, and cook the rice noodles. It takes ten minutes, tops.
9. Name three items you’d have on a deserted island?
Does spotify count as an item? I would need music, a blanket and a camera. I’ve not counted Liam as an item, but I’m hoping he’s there too…
10. Name the next topic you are most excited to blog about?
I just finished interviewing a local furniture and interiors designer who lives up the road. We met via twitter, thanks to a local coffee shop, and I am just waiting for some final photos before I post it. We spent a little over an hour together, and I walked out feeling so excited and inspired. I can’t wait to share it with you guys.
That’s it – thanks so much for reading. And please let me know if there’s anything you want to hear more or less about. I will definitely return the favour tomorrow. 🙂
