Always on the hunt for one-off finds with loads of character and personality, I was thrilled to discover Xylo through Twitter the other week. A new venture launched by the William Wilberforce Trust, this brand identifies high-quality, traditional furniture that needs a bit of a reinvention to escape a long-forgotten attic or worse – the junkyard.
The organisation then helps individuals who have difficulty finding work by teaching them the skills they need to become craftsmen. Their creative talent is then unleashed on those pieces that need a bit of love and attention before they find themselves a new home. The result? Classic pieces with loads of contemporary character, all hand-finished and restored so that they’re in keeping with today’s trends.
Each one is completely bespoke, and created with great care and attention. A few of my favourites? Items with confident, sturdy silhouettes that have been re-imagined with refreshingly bold colours.
Head over to their website to check out what’s in stock and read more about their amazing work. I’ll be heading to the studio in the new year to meet a few of the craftsman and hear how this organisation has impacted their lives. Can’t wait!
