Yesterday was a bit mental with a trip to scope out our favourite nursery and dinner with a few of Liam’s family. Luckily we loved the nursery and so will be going on the waiting list yet this week (I know – the baby isn’t even born yet and she won’t go til next August, BUT this place only takes nine children under the age of 2, is a highly graded Montessori nursery, and is in the perfect location for our commutes into London).
So instead of writing one update yesterday, you get a two-day update today.
Day 3 finished looking like this:
All our base units were installed and we’d agreed a few last minute tweaks to the layout. So things were definitely starting to take shape. I don’t think we’d appreciated the height of our units until they were in place, but they definitely make the most of the high ceilings.
As of this morning, all our units are installed along the right and back wall, and we can really feel how usable the kitchen will be when it’s finished. We’ve done our best to create work triangles – so sink, dishwasher, storage for pots and pans all towards the back, near the window. Glasses, food and other bits all towards the front end of the kitchen, so we can use that worktop to lay out and prepare meals. Stove in the middle as the divider.
Today is all about getting the electrics sorted. As it turns out, our entire kitchen was wired off one socket so it’s a good thing we’re not big appliance people or we would have been blowing fuses regularly.
We’re also finally getting our living room back to normal. When everything was loaded into the flat, this was the view from our sofa.
After a little reshuffle last night, it’s looking much more liveable.
So that’s it for now – hope everyone has had a great week! Back tomorrow with another update. Happy Friday!
