Thanks for bearing with me everyone – I got out of hospital Saturday afternoon and pretty much came home and went to bed. But not before I got to do a little dance in the kitchen to celebrate all the progress that had been made while I was away.
At the end of today, this is what things are looking like. Everything is installed and working (first time having a dishwasher since I left home at 18 – 12 years ago!) and we’re just doing the last of the details like grout and decorating.
So without further delay, here’s the latest:
As you can see it’s still a building site, but looking far better than it was at this time last week. We’ve also left all the protective plastic on all the cupboards and appliances until all the painting is done. But you still get a feel for how it will look.
If you remember, last minute we decided on over-sized subway tiles with black grout. We took inspiration from our favourite local coffee shop Brown’s of Brockley, down the road, and are so pleased with how it’s turned out. Our poor builder groaned as soon as I told him we wanted black grout – it stains EVERYTHING including his hands. But he admits it does look pretty dang great once it’s finished.
We’ve already started filling cupboards, and I’ll go through once it’s all done to show you what storage we went for and how we’re using it. We’ve even cooked a few meals in it already, which has been great. Plenty of space for both of us to work, and we even have our own little mini workspaces (one each side of the stove) so we don’t get in one another’s way.
Thanks again for being patient – there will be a few more kitchen posts to come as we get everything tidied up. And we did fit in a little appliance shop, so will be unveiling those as soon as the paint stops flying.
Any questions you have for me, send them through! Otherwise, back with a little feature on the man behind the kitchen and some other fun bits later this week.
