Hello and hope everyone is having a good Tuesday. This is a long overdue thank you post to the guys who overhauled our house – Mark Kavanagh and his team at Decorating Company UK.
From the get-go, the guys worked with attention to detail, flexibility, sensitivity to our budget, and a desire for the same amazing finished product. We threw our fair share of curve balls their way (seriously messed up skirting boards but no budget for a carpenter, walls with crumbling plaster under four layers of wallpaper, miles of archaic wiring left behind by the old owners) and they dealt with each challenge by talking us through a series of solutions. They were super flexible with Freja and her naptime, and even advised on an exterior problem that we were dealing with, just because they could see what the issue was. In a few instances, they went back over walls that were 80% perfect, because they wanted them to be 100% perfect – no small ask in such an old house!
Six weeks of decorating could have been an absolute nightmare, but the guys went out of their way to make it as pleasant as possible, and adapt when I suddenly changed my mind on something (for example, the banister was going to be off black with white posts and on a whim I decided to go all off-black after seeing how much I loved the colour). They were fantastic communicators, and experts at their job. Had Liam and I tried to do this ourselves, there’s no way that it would have turned out as well as it has.
Lesson learned – decorating isn’t as easy as slapping some paint on the wall or filling a few holes. Seeing it done properly has given me a whole new level of respect for the job. Massive thank you guys!
If you want to see more of Mark’s work, you can check out his Instagram feed (here) or his website (here). I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking for a great team of decorators in London.
I’ll leave you with a few of my favourite photos – we’ve finally managed to get some of our artwork up, and it’s feeling even better than it did six weeks ago! But there’s still a lot of work to do to get everything styled and feeling like a family house. Especially now that I’ve been reading Styled by Emily Henderson – suddenly I feel like we’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg. Good thing we’re not moving ever again – there’s plenty of time to get it right.
